Porsche Taycan topples Tesla Model 3 as fastest electric car to cross the US

This proves there are other options on the Tesla Supercharger network as well.

On December 31, 2020, a group of electric car enthusiasts set a new cannonball mileage record for the Porsche Taycan 4S. The group broke the previous record set by the Tesla Model 3 Long Range by 51 minutes.

Cannonball Run is a legendary and illegal cross-country combo race where drivers try to get from New York to Los Angeles as quickly as possible.

It was first developed to protest the growing number of speed limits applied on US roads. Since road safety is more important now than ever, this concept is outdated and no one else should put up with it.

The format isn't quite dead yet, though. Modern drivers are now using this concept to test the range of electric vehicles (EVs) and are setting certain battery-powered records for transcontinental crossing.

This might not seem like a great achievement; The combustion record is less than 30 hours, and after all, a Porsche is a fast car. But Tesla has the advantage of having a reliable and expansive Supercharger network and a larger range between charges.

To topple Tesla, Taycan drivers used Electrify America's charging network. When used optimally, the wall chargers can supply up to 350 kW of power to the Porsche, making it the fastest electric vehicle on the planet.

Under optimal conditions, this is enough to extend the range by 100 km (62 miles) in just five minutes, Porsche says.

Tesla's V2 superchargers have a maximum power of 150 kW, while its V3 superchargers provide a peak power of 250 kW - a 350 kW V4 unit is in development.

It goes without saying that we disapprove of breaking the law in this record-breaking attempt. However, this should provide food for thought to those who believe that this is not possible because the infrastructure is underdeveloped.
